Community Forum on Municipal Incorporation and Local Governance on 10/16, Howe Park--Save the Date
The Advocates for Arden Arcade invite the public to attend a forum to provide the community with information about the municipal incorporation process and its prospects. The community forum will be held on the evening of October 16, 2017 at the Conzelmann Community Center at Howe Park. To be clear, there is no current attempt to create a city in Arden Arcade and the meeting is not about promoting incorporation. The state Legislature, whether it intended to or not, has taken away the ability of unincorporated communities to become cities. Yet there has been a great deal of discussion lately within Arden Arcade and nearby communities about incorporation of our area. Further, the situation imposed by state laws could change. Given that 6 million Californians live in urbanized unincorporated areas like ours, a statewide organization, California (un)Incorporated, has proposed ways to improve local governance and is hoping to change the state's policies that block the formation of new cities. The public is welcome to come to the meeting to learn about the potential for better local government, barriers to municipal incorporation, and the potential for those barriers to be removed. The Country Club Alliance of Neighborhoods, Stammtisch, Vintage Arden Arcade and the Greater Arden Chamber of Commerce will be participating as well. Other interested community groups are invited to become engaged too.
Please save the evening of October 16th for this informative meeting. The doors will open at 6:30, with the meeting running from 7 to 8:30. Katherine Borges of the Salida Chamber of Commerce and California (un)Incorporated will be the guest speaker. The community is fortunate that the Greater Arden Chamber of Commerce proudly supports community gatherings like this and will be providing refreshments. All members of the public are invited. There is no cost to attend.
