Illegal fireworks
It's that time of year again, when Vets with PTSD cringe and livestock and pet owners (other than the ones whose dogs are deaf) have to take extra precautions to calm their animals. If you think you are the only one who dreads the crazy use of illegal fireworks in Arden Arcade, your concerns are supported by Metro Fire, which says:
- Any fireworks that go up in the air, travel or explode are illegal and dangerous,
- It is illegal to sell, transport, or use fireworks that do not carry the “safe and sane” seal,
- it is unlawful to possess, sell, use, display or discharge “safe and sane” fireworks outside of the time period beginning at 12:00 on June 28 and ending at 10.00 p.m. on July 5,
- Sales of “safe and sane fireworks” within the unincorporated area of Sacramento County without a valid County business license authorizing such sales are against the law,
- The discharge of illegal fireworks which ignites a fire that results in the loss of property to another person or that causes great bodily injury can result in felony criminal charges, and
- Parents are liable for any damage or injuries caused by their children using fireworks.
This problem really impacts a highly urbanized part of the County like Arden Arcade because our community is so densely populated. If we were are own City, we could make laws that are more appropriate for our community and we would be able to have those laws to enforced. The County has really fallen down in this regard by turning a blind eye to it for years, such that now there is a sense of entitlement for use of illegal fireworks. What this means, given our unincorporated status, is all we can do is hope that people will follow the advice of Metro Fire:
Remember, fireworks are dangerous! Consider leaving lighting to the professionals or finding safer celebration alternatives that don’t involve open flames.Metro Fire ( https://metrofire.ca.gov/illegal-fireworks)
