Upcoming Community Meetings - Land Use and Economic Development
Supervisor Rich Desmond has announced another series of community meetings. This time the topics are land use and economic development, two of the County's municipal responsibilities. Readers of this website can easily determine how we feel about the way the County has discharged those duties over the years: just type the words "land use" or "economic development" into the search box at the upper right hand corner of our pages. Supervisor Desmond's announcement says he has invited County staff - Todd Smith, Planning Director, and Crystal Bethke, Director of Economic Development - to speak about the County's efforts to attract businesses and infill projects in unincorporated areas. Would you like to know why the County's General Plan for our community is dated from and focused on 1980 instead of 2024? Do you wonder if "infill development" equals ubiquitous homeless encampments? Do you have questions such as why does the County let places like Country Club Plaza or Mike's Market rot away, or why would anyone encourage a 4-story storage building on one of our main streets in the heart of our community, or why does the County stand by while {insert name of suffering strip mall here} spirals downwards? If so, these meetings are for you. They will be held as follows:
- Fair Oaks - 8/29/24, 5:30-6:30 pm, Fair Oaks Water District, 10326 Fair Oaks Blvd
- Arden Arcade - 9/12/24, 8:30-9:30 am, Howe Park, 2201 Cottage Way
- Carmichael - 9/16/24, 8:30-9:30 am, Carmichael Park Clubhouse, 5750 Grant Ave
- Foothill Farms - 9/17/24, 5:30-6:30 pm, Liberty Towers Youth Center, 5229 Elkhorn Blvd.
