We Got a Pat on the Back

We were surprised and delighted to get email today from the National Civic League saying the Advocates for Arden Arcade is among the organizations working to protect democracy in America. In their words:

  • The National Civic League has issued the Healthy Democracy Ecosystem Map, an innovative, interactive resource that aims to capture and display the organizations, networks, and resources dedicated to sustaining and advancing democratic practices across the United States. At a time when democracy faces significant challenges, this project shines a light on the numerous efforts underway to bolster civic engagement, foster collaboration, and ensure a vibrant, inclusive future for American democracy.
  • By showcasing the work of these civic organizations, the map provides opportunities for collaboration, promotes the sharing of ideas, and enhances strategic funding efforts. It is designed to help a variety of stakeholders—from practitioners and community leaders to funders and everyday citizens—better understand the democratic landscape and take meaningful action.

We are humbled to have been honored among the 4,900 organizations in the 20 states shown on the map. In saying that, we recognize the critical role you, our readers, contribute to our quest for improvements for our local area. We are sincerely grateful to the National, Civic League, and to all of you who read our posts, maybe even comment on them, and/or challenge us to be fair and accurate. It may be cold and gloomy here in the 'hood today, but we're feeling some warmth from being named as an organization that promotes a healthy democracy.
