It's not really a small thing...

Update, March 26, 2025: We contacted the author of this article about the misleading statement. She responded graciously, saying she would make a correction to the article. We still haven't seen the revision, but we understand it can take some time for online editions of the Bee to be updated.
The Bee had an article today about Chipotle opening a new restaurant location, one on Fulton Avenue between El Camino and Marconi, where the Carl's Jr. used to be. The article said the restaurant will be opening this summer and is looking to hire about 30 people.
Of course, we're happy to hear that a restaurant will replace one that closed and that there will be employment opportunities. However, the article acrtually does our community an injustice. We quote:
"Chipotle will open a new location in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood..."Veronica Fernandez-Alvarado, "Chipotle is opening a new Sacramento-area restaurant - and its hiring. Here's what to know" Sacramento Bee, March 21, 2025.
Nope. With a population of almost 100,000 people, our part of the County's vast unincorporated UnCity is NOT a neighborhood. Nor are we a part of Sacramento - we're a part of Sacramento COUNTY, but NOT part of the City of Sacramento, as the statement implies. Frankly, saying the middle of Fulton Avenue is "in Sacramento's Arden Arcade neighborhood" is not just misleading, it's sloppy journalism. Is it really too hard for the Bee's editors to have used a phrase like "in the unincorporated Sacramento County community of Arden Arcade"? Oh, but wait. For the editors to have done that would have required some actual knowledge of our community. And that's something that's sorely missing from the Bee and the rest of the region's mainstream media. Still, isn't it time to come clean with the public in the unincorporated area so people will understand the County runs things here, that we're not governed by the City of Sacramento?
And, yes, we know darn well the editors at the Bee will just scoff at us if we phoned them to request a correction that would show a teensy bit more respect for our community. People deserve facts, not confusion. That's why we're putting this post on our website.
